History

PICA began when a group of contractors in Melbourne got together and decided that they should form an association tailored to their particular needs.  From this general discussion among themselves, they contacted more contractors, culminating in an inaugural meeting on Tuesday 22nd April 1986, with 18 people in attendance.

Australian Chamber of Manufacturers

Since then, our membership has increased from 18 people to over 200.  We are now in the five mainland States of Australia: New South Wales (Sydney); Queensland (Brisbane); Western Australia (Perth); and South Australia (Adelaide).  The island State of Tasmania is represented through it's closest neighbor, Victoria.  Members consist of contractors, equipment supplier/contractors, manufacturers and oil companies.
In January 1998, the national body, PICA - Australia was legally chartered.  Its directors are made up of elected representatives from each of the state associations, plus two manufacturer's representatives.
